There's a science to how people learn.

Get into the experience fast
Productive struggle builds capability
Metacognition drives self-awareness
Energy in the room is your responsibility
The best way is through, not around
Design for impact, not vanity metrics

Learning isn't a soft skill or a nice-to-have. It's a discipline — grounded in neuroscience, cognitive design, motivation theory, and behavioral science. I've spent my career studying it, applying it, and proving that when you get the science right, the results follow.

Rigor matters — but so does engagement. The best learning experiences are ones people actually want to be in. I believe you're responsible for the energy you create in the room — and I take that seriously. My sessions are designed to be immersive and immediately practical, because engagement is the prerequisite for transfer.

I believe in getting people into the experience as fast as possible. In productive struggle — the kind of difficulty that builds real capability. In metacognition as a path to self-reflection and self-awareness, so learners come away knowing themselves better, not just knowing more. In experiential moments that create the kind of "aha" that opens a conversation and changes how someone sees themselves or their work.

My greatest strength is facilitation — and facilitation, done right, is not about me. It's about creating the conditions for others to discover, experiment, and grow. I'm in service to the learner. Always.

My years working directly with engineers and data scientists shaped how I think about measurement. I'm not interested in vanity metrics — smile sheets and completion rates don't tell you if anyone changed. I believe in designing for impact: clear hypotheses, observable behavior change, and the willingness to iterate when something isn't working. Learning should be held to the same standard as any other business investment.

"I've seen it firsthand, and lived it myself: learning is the answer to all of life's challenges."

The Upskilling Imperative

Published by McGraw-Hill — the playbook for building organizations where learning is embedded in how work actually gets done.

Most companies want to build a learning culture — few know how. This book breaks down the science and the practice: how people actually learn, what conditions make learning stick, and how leaders can build systems that develop their people continuously, not just at annual review time.

Learning culture Upskilling at scale Behavioral science Manager capability Organizational performance L&D strategy
"The Upskilling Imperative offers a remarkable amount of insight into how knowledge and learning can be unleashed in an organization. Every leader hoping to build or maintain a successful learning culture within their company should read this book!"
— Marshall Goldsmith, New York Times #1 bestselling author of Triggers, Mojo, and What Got You Here Won't Get You There
"In a workplace with five generations, there's one skill that's important no matter your age: continuous learning. The Upskilling Imperative is a road map for anyone who wants to build learning into the flow of work, foster growth throughout every stage of an employee's career, and ultimately use continuous upskilling as a competitive advantage."
— Chip Conley, Airbnb Strategic Advisor for Hospitality and Leadership and founder of Modern Elder Academy
"Companies that will thrive in today's world of work take professional development personally, and are creating a culture where learning is valued. The Upskilling Imperative makes the case for learning as the way we grow and transform as individuals and organizations."
— Erica Keswin, workplace strategist and author of the Wall Street Journal bestseller Bring Your Human To Work
